Take to the Skies: Learn to fly radio control in Cornwall

Have you ever watched a model plane fly and wondered what it’s like to be at the controls?

At Truro and District Model Flying Club, we make the dream of flight a reality. You don't need to be an expert or own a fleet of aircraft to start. Our training is designed to take you from your first take-off to your first solo flight with confidence and safety.

Why Start Your Journey With Us?

  • No Equipment? No Problem: We offer free "Trial Flights" using our club-owned trainer aircraft. You can try the hobby before investing in your own gear.
  • The "Buddy-Box" System:  Our instructors use a linked transmitter system, meaning they can give you control of the plane but take it back instantly if you get into trouble. It’s the safest, stress-free way to learn.
  • BMFA Club Instructors:  We follow the British Model Flying Association (BMFA) standards, ensuring you learn the "right way" from day one.
  • A Path to Success: We’ll guide you through the BMFA Achievement Scheme (A & B Certificates), helping you become a fully licensed, independent pilot.

Your First Lesson: What to Expect

  1. The Briefing: We’ll show you the basics of radio control and which sticks move which bits!
  2. The Flight: Once in the air, your instructor will hand over control. You’ll start with simple turns and levelling out, followed by simple circuits.
  3. Landings:  Once you are confident with basic circuits, we will teach you the fun part - landings!
  4. The Community: After the flight, join us in the pits for a chat. Our members love sharing advice on the best "first planes" to buy and how to get the most out of this rewarding hobby.
